Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has reiterated the Maldives’ support for an independent and a sovereign Palestine. Minister Shahid met with the Foreign Minister of Palestine Riyad Al Maliki on the sidelines of Extraordinary Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and expressed unwavering support of the Maldives for an independent Palestine.
Extending full support to the Palestine people, Maldives declared its decision to vote in favour of Palestine in the United Nations General Assembly. Speaking at the Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC, Minister Shahid also condemned Netanyahu's pledge to annex West Bank's Jordan Valley.
The government also condemned Israel's development of new settlements in Palestinian territories and its decision to relocate diplomatic missions to Jerusalem.
