DCP Farhad Fikry appointed interim in-charge of MPS

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Farhad Fikry has been designated interim in-charge of Maldives Police Service. (MPS) Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusan made the announcement for the change in the leadership of Maldives’ police.

This development follows an announcement from the Former Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen on the 18 February, announcing his retirement from the service.

Farhad Fikry was appointed to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police on the 16 February 2024. Farhad has been with the MPS since March 1991, highlighting an enduring 33 years serving in various divisions of the MPS. In this regard, he has served in the operations division, investigative division, and as the head of various sub-divisions within the administrative and support division. Before being appointed as the Deputy Commissioner, Farhad served as the Acting Head of the People’s Directorate and the Head of Operational Support Command.

This is not the first instance that Farhad Fikry has been appointed as interim in charge of MPS. On 25 November 2023, when the Commissioner of Police retired, he was given the responsibility of leading MPS.

According to the Maldives Police Service Act, once a commissioner vacates a position, a new Commissioner must be appointed within 45 days.
