Final round of China-Maldives FTA talks to begin on Sept. 26

Economic Minister has revealed that the final round of talks on the proposed China-Maldives free trade agreement will be held in China from September 26 to October 2.

Speaking to Public Service Media, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said “the government aims to shape the free trade agreement in a way that will bring immense benefits to local businesses.

He said the government had so far held meetings with more than 2000 companies from the Maldives and China regarding the agreement.

Official discussions on the proposed free trade agreement between the two countries were initiated in September 2015.

The 2nd round of talks on the agreement were held in Beijing, China earlier this year, while the 3rd round of talks were held in Male’ in May.
