Police Commissioner Urges Faster Information Sharing to Counter Cross-Border Crime

Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has urged member states to share information without delay in efforts to combat crimes such as drug manufacturing and cross-border trafficking.

He made the call during meetings with heads of law enforcement agencies from several countries attending the 93rd General Assembly of Interpol.

During these discussions, the Commissioner highlighted that the manufacturing and trafficking of drugs across borders, as well as the illegal tobacco trade, pose significant threats to the Maldives, the wider region, and the international community as a whole. He stressed the need for immediate information sharing and stronger cooperation among the member states to tackle these challenges.

The Commissioner underscored the importance of identifying and curbing the activities of criminal networks operating abroad that finance and coordinate criminal activities in the Maldives. He emphasised the importance of joint efforts to combat transnational and organised crime, operations against foreign criminals, and timely exchange of intelligence.

Commissioner Naveen reaffirmed that the Maldives Police Service will continue to strengthen its partnership with foreign law enforcement agencies to enhance national safety and security.

The Interpol’s 93 General Assembly is taking place in Morocco from 24 to 27 November.
