The Chief government Spokesperson has announced that a new programme enabling citizens to meet President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on a one‑on‑one basis will be rolled out in the near future.
Speaking during the second episode of PSM News’ Nation Chat programme, President Muizzu revealed that the initiative aims to give wider opportunities for people from all walks of life to interact with him directly.
In the latest instalment of the “Presser with the Spox” series, Spokesperson Hussain Shareef said the President already meets large numbers of people through official ceremonies and letter submissions, but the new scheme will streamline the process.
According to Hussain Shareef, the first draft framework has been compiled and it is now in the final stages of finalisation. The details of the meeting format will be disclosed once the programme is officially determined, he added.
At present, citizens can only meet the President by sending written petitions to the President’s Office or by attending public events. The Spokesman highlighted that the government wishes to create an easier avenue for individuals—especially those living on the scattered islands of the Maldives—to engage with the President.
During his appearance on Nations Chat, President Muizzu emphasised his commitment to visiting every island and also engaging with Maldivians abroad, while noting that, until now, direct contact has been limited. He disclosed plans to set aside specific time slots once or twice a week to meet with the public.
