HDC opens first-ever container data centre in Hulhumale'

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has inaugurated a container data centre in Hulhumale'. It is the first time such a centre has been opened in the Maldives.

HDC stated the data centre is part of its efforts to make Hulhumale' a smart city under its Smartcom brand. The centre,located in Hulhumale' Phase II, guarantees 99.9% uninterrupted service availability per year.

Speaking on the inauguration of the centre, Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Atif said the centre will further expand the services of the Open Access Network currently installed in Hulhumale'. He said HDC will continue to expand the services provided by the centre in the future.

HDC stated that the data centre will reduce service interruption time by less than 1.6hrs per year. In addition, the centre will have a redundant cooling system, a redundant battery backup system that lasts for at least 24hrs, and an automated monitoring system with an alert mechanism. HDC also stated that the centre is established in an environmentally friendly manner and has a fire system.
