Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated a record number of scholarship opportunities have been opened by this government to train chartered accountants in the Maldives.
Speaking at the ceremony held to award 150 accounting scholarships announced by the government, Higher Education Minister Hassan said the aim of the scholarship programme is to train the required number of chartered accountants in the field and provide additional employment opportunities for local youth. He noted 493 applications had been received for the 150 scholarship slots, showing the interest among local youth to undergo training as chartered accountants. He said the current administration has undertaken more efforts to train chartered accountants than any other previous administration.
The higher education minister further stated the training of locals as chartered accountants will help to remove the disparity among foreigners and locals in the field. He added this would also have economical benefits as it would reduce the amount of money sent abroad.
The higher education ministry stated recipients of the 150 scholarships were selected based on merit. The government will cover the registration fees, annual subscription fees, exemption fees, examination fees, book allowances and tuition fees of the scholarship winners for the duration of the training.
