MCS conducts training programme on countering violent extremism

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has conducted a special training programme for correctional officers in Maafushi Prison on countering violent extremism.

MCS revealed 28 correctional officers had completed the training programme, titled “Principles and Concepts of Countering Violent Extremism and High Security Prison Operations”. Certificates were awarded to the trainees by Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu during a special ceremony held on March 8.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu stated the spread of violent extremism in the name of religion is a danger faced by the whole world. The commissioner stated extremism is being spread rampantly in prisons, where inmates are being recruited for such organisations. He added MCS must be wary of such agendas and ensure such ideologies are eliminated from Maldivian prisons.

Participants of the training programme were instructed by the Consultant of International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Programme (ICITAP) Mike Panek.
