Eight establishments permitted to operate as transit facilities

Ministry of Tourism has permitted eight guest houses and hotels in the Greater Male' Region to be utilised as transit facilities.

The tourism ministry revealed five establishments in Male' City, two establishments in Hulhumale' and Hulhule Island Hotel (HIH) have been permitted to be utilised as transit facilities. The ministry said all such guest houses and hotels shall abide by the standards set in section D2 of the Guideline for Restarting Tourism in the Maldives.

The ministry has revealed 61 resorts have resumed operations upon reopening of the Maldivian borders on July 15. Statistics from the tourism ministry indicates 32 resorts were opened on July 15, immediately upon reopening of the borders which had been closed since March 27 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government aims to record 850,000 tourist arrivals by the end of the year. The tourism ministry and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) have been undertaking efforts to promote the Maldives as a safe destination for tourists.
