Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has requested at the International Democratic Union (IDU) to ease travel of tourists to the Maldives.
Speaking in an executive committee meeting of the main ruling party, President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed announced a motion has been submitted lobbying the ease of traveling to the Maldives from the member countries of IDU, which is an international alliance of centre-right and conservative political parties.
Noting ruling parties in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Norway and the UK are members of the IDU, Nasheed highlighted a centre-right party is in power in the US. Therefore, he said it is believed all parties have discussed the matter with their foreign relation committees. He added the Maldives is highly dependent on tourism and efforts must be enhanced to revive the sector.
