The Parliament of the Maldives has decided to submit over 300 findings and suggestions to the government over the situation of COVID-19.
The suggestions and findings compiled by the parliament came from 12 parliamentary committees which undertook research into overcoming the COVID-19 situation in the country. Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed revealed 10 committees have now completed their findings and submitted the final report. He said the parliament will be submitting over 300 findings and suggestions to the government, once all committee reports are completed.
Speaker Nasheed said the findings include ways to overcome the financial, economic and social issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, the speaker said the reports include the effects on state income and detailed projections on the employment sector. He said the reports have been prepared after contacting all relevant institutions, as well as private businesses and NGOs.
The parliament speaker said the reports are intended to provide the vision for a strategic action plan of the government to overcome the COVID-19 crisis. He said the suggestions submitted by the parliament are suggestions given by the people of the Maldives, which will be crucial in planning to rebuild the country after the crisis.
