If unity is maintained, Maldives can achieve goals: Vice President

Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated Maldives can attain remarkable achievements if the unity showed on International Friendship Day can be maintained.

Speaking to PSM News following the gathering held to mark International Friendship Day, Vice President Naseem noted if the unity showed during the event is maintained, Maldives can achieve any goal envisioned. With regret, the vice president said although Maldivians are famous for their hospitality and unity, it has changed during recent times. He added such events show unity of the ancestors appealing to maintain unity.

The gathering held commemorating International Friendship Day was participated by government offices, institutions and schools.

This is the first ever time Maldives celebrated International Friendship Day.

International Day of Friendship is an initiative that follows on the proposal made by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and taken up by the United Nations General Assembly in 1997, which defined the culture of peace as a set of values, attitudes and behaviours that reject violence and endeavours to prevent conflicts by addressing their root causes with a view to solving problems.
