The United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Member of Parliament David Lammy and Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu have discussed enhancing bilateral relations between both countries. The discussion took place during a courtesy call on President Muizzu by Foreign Secretary Lammy, as part of President Muizzu’s ongoing visit to the United Kingdom.
Discussions during the call focused on enhancing bilateral relations between the Maldives and the United Kingdom, with particular emphasis on cooperation in fisheries, climate change adaptation, the expansion of renewable energy, and the advancement of education and scholarship opportunities. Both sides also explored new avenues for collaboration across key sectors.
The call concluded with both countries reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the enduring partnership between the two nations.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United Kingdom were established on 26 July, 1965.
