Counter Terrorism Centre to work against radicalization

Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) and National Counter Terrorism Centre has signed a Letter of Intent to work together for the prevention of radicalization and opposing terrorism.

At a special ceremony held at the university, Chancellor Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed signed the agreement on behalf of IUM while Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor signed the agreement on behalf of the center. Under the agreement, the university would be conducting research with the National Counter Terrorism Centre, including research on radicalization and anti-terrorism efforts. The two entities would also unite in hosting conferences, and sharing technical support.

Addressing the function, Chancellor Dr Shaheem said that extremism, radicalization and terrorism are issues that are of international concern and that therefore if was vital for collective efforts, to save humanity. He added that people fall victim to radical and terrorist ideology due to ignorance.

Addressing the function, Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor said that it should be an individual target of every citizen to annihilate terrorism and prioritize peace and stability. He said that the National Counter Terrorism Centre aims to address the matter, in unity with all relevant institutions.
