STELCO contracts a company to establish sewage in Fenfushi Island

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has signed an agreement with Lucky Exports, an Indian trading company, to establish a sewage system in Fenfushi Island of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

At the signing ceremony held at Fenfushi Island, the Managing Director of STELCO, Abdul Shukoor Ali and the Managing Director of Lucky Exports, Vinay Singh signed on behalf of the respective companies.

STELCO, the electricity service provider for the greater Male' region, Kaafu atoll, Alifu Alifu atoll, Alifu Dhaalu atoll and Vaavu atoll, has been conducting a project which aims to establish sewage and water systems in islands in these atolls where such systems are not in place.

Fenfushi Island, host to a population of 1040 people, continues to face water related problems. The population is also in dire need of a sewage system. Fenfushi Island is the first island targeted in this initiative.

It is the hope of the residents that this million rufiyaa project to establish a sewage system in the island would revitalize the island's fresh water lens and make well water safe for daily use, according to island officials.
