Fifth Power Development Project commences in Hulhumale’

State Electric Company (STELCO) has commenced the 5th Power Development Project in Hulhumale'.

The project, carried out with the assistance of China's Dongfang Electric Corporation, is funded by the contractor and through a loan arranged by the Exim Bank of China, according to the state-owned utility.

Six 8.9-megawatt generators will be installed under the project, which the Government says marks an important milestone in the development of the country’s power sector.

On completion, the new power plant will have the capacity to generate 50MW of power to Male', Hulhule' and Hulhumale’ via the Maldives-China Friendship Bridge, STELCO said.
