Maldives Expo 2026, which attracted widespread public interest and enthusiasm, has successfully concluded after nine days.
Organised by the Business Centre Corporation (BCC) under the guidance of the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, the government-led expo aimed to promote local creativity and expand business opportunities in the Maldives.
The expo ran from 25 October to 2 November, opening every evening. It was one of the largest exhibitions of its kind held in the Maldives in recent years, attracting a record number of participants.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed officially inaugurated the expo. The President visited the exhibition on three separate evenings during its nine-day run, taking a close look at participants’ products and offering encouragement to local entrepreneurs.
The expo provided a comprehensive showcase of Maldivian cultural heritage and craftsmanship. Exhibits included traditional kasabu clothing, embroidery, lacquer work and other products made using skills passed down through generations, alongside creations by local artists and designers. Stalls also featured Maldivian food and beverages, as well as information on services offered by various companies.
In addition to showcasing locally made products, the expo hosted a range of engaging activities for visitors. These included recreational activities and games aimed at children and young people. The Boduberu Challenge and cultural competitions proved particularly popular, highlighting the continued vibrancy of traditional Maldivian entertainment and cultural practices.
The expo attracted a large number of Maldivian residents as well as foreign tourists visiting the country. Families and young people gathered at the venue to explore the various stalls, discover local products and take part in the activities.
According to BCC, more than 205,000 people visited the expo, averaging approximately 41,000 visitors per day. The corporation said the event provided businesses and tourism service providers with valuable opportunities to promote their services and connect with potential customers and investors.
A total of 419 exhibitors showcased 4,404 products at this year's expo. This represents an 83.5 per cent increase compared with the 2,400 products presented by 240 exhibitors last year.
Individuals accounted for the largest share of participants, with 321 individual exhibitors taking part. They were joined by 75 businesses and 16 organisations representing persons with disabilities, alongside participants from educational institutions, associations and state-owned enterprises.
