The Government is preparing to award the construction of two multi-storey parking facilities in Malé in the near future, Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has said.
The projects form part of preparations to develop seven parking buildings across the Greater Malé Region, including Hulhumalé and Vilimalé, to address parking constraints. Together, the facilities will provide more than 2,600 spaces for four-wheeled vehicles and 1,000 spaces for two-wheelers.
Speaking at a press conference at the President's Office, Minister Saeed said the Government is already undertaking extensive work to address parking difficulties facing the Maldives.
Among these efforts are two multi-storey parking facilities planned for the Greater Malé Region. Minister Saeed said the Government is working to award the projects at the designated parking areas on Sosun Magu and at Henveiru Heenamaage soon, after which physical work will begin.
The Minister said the Government has expanded its parking policy to five options, with work on parking facilities progressing as part of these measures.
Minister Saeed said the Government has identified a party to establish a modern parking facility at the Henveiru Heenamaage site in Malé and is holding discussions with the party.
The Government's efforts to address parking constraints also include a parking facility in Hulhumalé with capacity for more than 1,100 vehicles. The Government laid the foundation for the facility in March 2026.
The 13-storey development, including a basement level, is under development in Hulhumalé Phase I and will provide parking for both two-wheelers and four-wheeled vehicles.
