The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) provided about USD 1.15 million last month to single parents living in poverty and caring for their children, according to statistics published by the agency.
The figures show that 87 people were newly registered for the Single Parent Allowance Program during the month, while 179 children were newly registered to receive assistance.
NSPA provided assistance to 3,357 single mothers and fathers living in poverty and caring for their children, covering 5,206 children. The agency disbursed about USD 1.13 million in total assistance during the month.
Financial support also extended to children living in poverty who are cared for by people other than their parents and do not receive parental support. NSPA provided about USD 12,160 to 137 such children and 101 caregivers last month, while four caregivers newly applied for the assistance.
NSPA also provided about USD 1,699 in financial assistance to 655 people living in poverty to purchase food.
Under the Thalassaemia Allowance, the agency provided about USD 69,390 to 535 people last month. NSPA also arranged the allowance for four people during the month.
NSPA operates a range of programmes to provide financial assistance to people who require support for different needs.
