The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has held a special children’s evening to mark National Engineers’ Day.
National Engineers’ Day is celebrated on August 30. Held a day ahead on 29 August, the children’s evening continued until 9pm and was well received by the public.
The evening’s aim was to introduce children to engineering and familiarise them with engineers’ contributions to infrastructure, economic development and national growth.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib said celebrating National Engineers’ Day will increase the number of people entering the engineering field. He noted that too few school graduates are choosing engineering, so the event is intended to generate interest and encourage more students to pursue engineering careers.
Government institutions and state-owned companies set up interactive engineering and science stalls at the event. These activities allowed children and the public to learn through hands-on experiences. The family-oriented event also included sports and gifts.
Participating organisations included the Maldives National Defence Force, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, Housing Development Corporation, Male’ Water and Sewerage Company, Fenaka Corporation Limited, State Electric Company Limited, Road Development Corporation, Maldives Airports Company Limited, Island Aviation Services Limited, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Utilities Regulatory Authority, Maldives Ports Limited and Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation.
