The Department of National Registration (DNR) is modernising its services as part of the government’s Maldives 2.0 digital transformation initiative.
The project supports the initiative’s aim of delivering faster, higher-quality public services.
Under this initiative, the department will upgrade its national ID card service counters, which have been in use since 2008. DNR said a tender has been announced for the upgrade, with the aim of completing the new counters and launching services before the end of the year. An information session for interested bidders will be held on 12 August, and only those who attend will be eligible to submit bids. The bid submission deadline is 31 August.
DNR said the upgraded counters are intended to provide more modern, efficient and user-friendly services.
Over the past two years, the DNR has expanded services by opening three additional service offices in the Greater Male’ area, including offices in Hulhumale’ Phase I, Phase II and Villimale’. ID card printing services have also been introduced in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and all atolls of the Maldives, allowing citizens to obtain ID cards closer to where they live. Citizens can also apply for ID cards online and collect them from their island of residence or the nearest service location.
