The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said phase one of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu upgrading project on the northern side of Male' has now reached 90 percent completion.
According to MTCC, keywall capping concrete works have been completed, and remaining major works are progressing quickly.
The first phase of the project covers five sections of the road stretching from the Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. While tarring works on segments 4 and 5, from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Foreign Ministry building, have already been completed, MTCC said installation of road signs, streetlights and signboards is ongoing.
For segments 2 and 3, sub-base works and the ABC layer are expected to be completed within the day, and tarring scheduled for within the week.
The project aims to address Male’ traffic congestion by widening roads and installing a modern drainage system. MTCC said the road will be opened to the public after tarring works are completed.
The project was originally planned for completion in June, but is now expected to be completed by 26 July. The upgraded road from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to Male’ North Harbour is expected to improve traffic flow.
