Road Development Corporation (RDC) has commenced practical work for the road development initiative in Meedhoo, Dhaalu Atoll.
Speaking to PSM News, RDC has detailed that this Public Service Investment (PSI) is allocated USD 3,491,685.81, a significant portion of the state budget. This is one of the most substantial endeavor focused on transportation infrastructure.
As part of this PSI, 10 roads are set to be developed, with eight paved roads and two brick roads. RDC has assured that the total 3.8 km of roads will be completed within 540 days.
Furthermore, RDC has informed that a modern drainage system will be installed during road modernisation, providing a long-term solution to the frequent flooding issues on the island. Streetlights will along with junctions for cables and pipelines will also be established.
RDC has ensured that this project will be carried out without causing disruptions to transportation or difficulties for the public.
This initiative aims to upgrade roads in Meedhoo to a higher standard, enhancing economic development for the community. RDC has informed that the government is placing particular emphasis on this project.
RDC was assigned to this initiative by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, in an official ceremony held during his community outreach visit to the island in February 2025.
