Chinese and Malaysian investors briefed on investment opportunities

Chinese and Malaysian investors have been briefed on investment opportunities in the Maldives.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, strategic opportunities for investment and partnership were discussed with Chinese and Malaysian investors at a meeting held at the ministry. Information was shared on key growth sectors in the Maldives, as well as the country’s enabling regulatory framework for doing business. Plans to create a more conducive environment for investors were also discussed.

As part of efforts to modernise the foreign investment laws, the legislation has now been amended and the relevant policies introduced. With these changes, the government believes that an internationally accepted system is now in place. The amendments to the Foreign Investment Act will ensure stronger protection for investors in the Maldives, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has previously said.
