Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially launched the Maldives National Logistics service, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s supply chain and transport infrastructure.
The service was inaugurated at the Marine Expo held at Hulhumalé Central Park by the Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer.
According to MPL, the initiative is designed to streamline the movement of goods across the Maldives by bringing loading, warehousing and delivery under a single, coordinated system. The aim is to improve efficiency, reduce logistical delays and lower overall costs for businesses and consumers.
Speaking to PSM News, Finance Minister Moosa Zameer said the Maldives requires robust and reliable logistical arrangements, noting that the new service would provide considerable relief to the business community.
MPL says the service includes a domestic transshipment facility, allowing containers arriving at Malé Port to be delivered directly to the atolls. A commercial warehouse is also being developed in Thilafushi, while new procedures have been introduced to improve the transfer of cargo from Malé harbour to Velana International Airport.
To further expand capacity, MPL is constructing a new landing craft, which is expected to be completed and operational within eight months.
The government has said its goal is to consolidate these services into a single national system, offering a comprehensive logistics solution for citizens and businesses nationwide.
MPL added that logistical services are being strengthened on an ongoing basis, with particular focus on improving sea-to-air cargo operations through updated procedures and infrastructure.
The government transferred operations of its logistics network, known as the ‘Anchor’ project, to MPL in December last year to ensure long-term sustainability. As part of this effort, Maldives National Logistics has now been established as a standalone service to support the expansion of MPL’s logistics operations.
