The construction of a Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire Station in Villingili, Gaafu Alif Atoll has been awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at MNDF Headquarters. Representing the Ministry of Defence and National Service, the agreement was signed by State Minister Muaz Haleem, while RDC was represented by its Deputy Managing Director, Hassan Rifa'ee Bushry.
The project forms part of the government's policy to expand fire and rescue services across the Maldives during the current administration, with the aim of establishing firefighting services in every atoll. The Gaafu Alif Atoll fire station is one of the facilities being developed under this initiative.
Funded through the state budget, the project has been awarded to RDC with a completion period of 550 days.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the establishment of the fire station will enable faster emergency response to fire incidents occurring within the region.
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Defence and National Service, Fathimath Mizna Ali; Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas; Commander of the Fire and Rescue Service, Brigadier General Ahmed Thohir; Service Corps Commandant Brigadier General Ismail Naseer; and senior officials from both the Defence Ministry and RDC.
