The Managing Director of Public Service Media (PSM), Ahmed Shakeeb, has said public trust in the Maldives’ national radio broadcaster, ‘Dhivehiraajjeyge Adu’, is founded on its commitment to concise, accurate and truthful reporting.
Speaking to the broadcaster on the occasion of its 63rd anniversary, Shakeeb highlighted the broadcaster’s longstanding role in Maldivian society, describing radio as an integral part of daily life across the country.
Referring to historical records, he noted that radio played a pivotal role during the Maldives’ independence, marking the beginning of a platform that carried citizens’ voices to the wider public.
He also drew attention to the broadcaster’s accessibility, saying its services are available to anyone, anywhere. He said ‘Dhivehiraajjeyge Adu’ continues to deliver information from wherever it is required, adapting to changing circumstances and audience needs.
He added that the broadcaster has stepped up efforts to keep pace with technological developments, using digital tools to expand access. As part of this transition, broadcasts have been integrated into ‘PSM Air’, allowing audiences with internet access to listen from all parts of the country and beyond.
Shakeeb said the principle of truthful reporting is deeply embedd in the institution’s policies and would remain a core value moving forward.
Outlining future plans, he said PSM aims to enhance public service delivery by incorporating youth voices and further technological innovation, while maintaining a strong focus on religious, cultural and national priorities.
Echoing Managing Director Shakeeb's remarks, PSM’s Deputy Managing Director, Yameen Rasheed, reflected on the broadcaster’s evolution into a digital, multi-platform service, extending its reach to television audiences.
Looking ahead, He said work is under way to further improve accessibility and service quality, adding that the goal is to ensure radio remains a medium that future generations can be proud of for its standards and public service role.
