President announces weekly “one-on-one” public meeting programme

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a new programme that will give citizens the chance to meet him personally once or twice a week, a move aimed at accelerating the resolution of issues raised during his nation‑wide tours.

Speaking during the second episode of PSM News’ Nation Chat programme, President Muizzu said the opposition has been spreading false rumours that his administration has taken no action after meeting and listening to the people.

He stressed that he has visited every island in the Maldives and even met Maldivians living abroad, and that a dedicated team is already working to find solutions to the concerns submitted through meetings and letters.

“We will examine each application, respond to it, and help where there are delays in government services,” the President said, adding that, aside from large‑scale projects such as housing complexes, no citizen proposal has been left undecided.

Acknowledging that many have requested a direct audience, the President explained that time constraints have prevented him from meeting everyone, but he is monitoring complaints closely through ministerial officials in the President’s Office.

To formalise direct engagement, the new “special programme” will allocate weekly slots for constituents, allowing up to ten or fifteen families per constituency to speak with him.

“Anyone who wishes will be given time, in line with the rules. This approach will enable us to hear a broad cross‑section of the public,” he said.

The President also noted that while earlier visits focused mainly on councils and institutions, future trips will include opportunities for the general public to interact with him.
