Practical work has commenced to upgrade the roads in Male’ City market area to modern standards.
The Male’ harbour area is one of the busiest and most congested parts of the city, heavily used by residents, cargo vehicles and vessels. The fish market, local market, and the traveller’s market, as well as the port area are also located in the area.
The road development project covers 250 metres, stretching from the Local Market Area to the North Harbour. Initial work includes excavation and utility relocation, involving MTCC, Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), and State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu recently announced that the government aims to complete the work before Ramadan. The upgraded road will become a two-way street.
The first segment of the Boduthakurufaanu road development project has already been completed under Phase I of the project, with an area of 140 metres developed. The project will develop a total of 1,088 metre stretch from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to North Harbour.
