President will not resign under any circumstances: MP Nihan

Majority leader of Parliament - Villimalé MP Ahmed Nihan Hussein Manik Friday evening reiterated that no room will be given for an unconstitutional change of government.

Speaking at a rally organised by the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in Fuvahmulah, Nihan expressed confidence in President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s government.

He said he is confident that President Yameen will not sign a resignation letter, even under duress.

Speaking at the rally, Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed said President Yameen appears to be winning on all political fronts.

He echoed Nihan’s statement, and said that every effort to overthrow the government will fail.

He further expressed confidence that President Yameen will be elected for a second term.

Speaking at the rally, Deputy Leader of PPM – Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla highlighted the government’s developmental aspirations.

President Yameen strives towards social and economic development of the country, he said.

He further described the opposition as “disingenuous” to the people and the country, and said no room will be given for those who want to destroy the nation.
