The government has awarded contracts to establish waste management centres in two islands in Vaavu Atoll.
The establishment of waste management centres in Thinadhoo and Fulidhoo was awarded to Wee Hour Investment Private Limited.
Deputy Minister of Tourism and Environment, Ahmed Nizam, signed the agreements on behalf of the Ministry at a ceremony held Wednesday, while senior officials signed on behalf of the company.
The Ministry of Environment has already handed over some of the equipment necessary for the centres in Thinadhoo and Felidhoo to the respective island councils. This includes can-pressing machines and wood chippers.
The projects, valued at USD 194,553, are to be completed within 120 days.
