The Maldives Hajj Corporation and State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited (StatePharma) have discussed strengthening cooperation on the procurement of medicines and medical supplies for Maldivian Hajj pilgrims.
The meeting aimed at facilitating the seamless procurement of essential medicines and other health-related items by increasing cooperation between the two parties and arranging better organised procurement.
The StatePharma said the Hajj Corporation used to source medicines from different suppliers in the past. However, under efforts to centralise and streamline this work, the corporation now wishes to purchase medicines through StatePharma, rather than sourcing them from multiple suppliers. StatePharma, as the main entity responsible for the import of medicines and medical supplies to the Maldives, sees this as an opportunity to expand its support to national institutions.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ensuring reliable, sustainable access to quality medicines and health equipment for Maldivians performing Hajj and Umrah, to ensure strengthened health protection for pilgrims.
