The Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has discussed cooperation on religious affairs with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani.
During a courtesy call to the Ambassador, Minister Shaheem expressed his sincere gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for the close and longstanding relations between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives, as well as for the Kingdom’s continued support and assistance in the Islamic sector.
The Minister also conveyed his appreciation to Ambassador Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani for his continued cooperation and the valuable assistance extended to the Ministry in advancing its initiatives and activities.
The meeting also highlighted the strong and growing ties between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia. Under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, bilateral relations between the two countries have continued to strengthen, with Saudi Arabia extending significant support in various areas, including additional facilities and arrangements aimed at enhancing the Hajj experience for Maldivian pilgrims.
Diplomatic relations between Maldives and Saudi Arabia were established on 17 March 1981. Saudi Arabia continues to extend assistance to the Maldives in various sectors.
