The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has inaugurated the "Ma’rifa 2025" book exhibition, bringing together booksellers and publishers to offer discounted reading materials to the public.
The event, organised by the ministry's Publication Unit, was officially opened by the Minister of State for Islamic Affairs Abdul Azeez Jamal Aboobakr at a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre.
The three-day fair runs from 26 to 28 August, with participating booksellers offering titles at prices lower than those found in regular bookshops. This initiative is part of a broader effort to foster a culture of reading in the Maldives.
The exhibition features a diverse collection of reading materials designed to cater to a broad audience. Available books include:
Religious books: A large selection of Islamic literature.
Dhivehi language books: Titles that celebrate and preserve the national language.
Children's books: Engaging stories and educational materials for young readers.
Language learning materials: Books tailored for children beginning to learn languages.
The Ministry has emphasised that the "Ma’rifa" exhibition is not only a marketplace but also a platform to connect publishers and sellers with readers, making books more accessible to the community. The fair is open in two daily sessions to accommodate visitors.
The event complements other recent initiatives by the Ministry to promote knowledge and learning, including the reopening of the Islamic Library at the King Salman Mosque last month.
