A.A. Thoddoo to get new 500 kW generator in 2017

State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) on Saturday revealed plans to install a 500 kW generator set at the powerhouse in Thoddoo Island, Alifu Alifu Atoll.

STELCO said the new generator set would be installed, under efforts to upgrade electricity services provided in the island.

The company currently uses 3 generator sets to provide electricity in the island; a 260 kW, a 300 kW and a 620 kW generator set.

Mohamed Ashraf, Assistant Station Manager at the Thoddoo Powerhouse, told PSM News that the company is planning to increase its electricity generation capacity, since electricity consumption is set to increase with the rapid expansion of guesthouse business in the island.

He also revealed plans to upgrade the electricity network in the island.

Since the powerhouse is located in a residential area, STELCO plans to spend in its budget next year to relocate the powerhouse to a non-residential area.

STELCO also provides water supply services in the island.
