Gov't explores local tourism expansion in Laamu Atoll

Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal has stated that he will give special priority to the development of local tourism in Laamu Atoll.

Speaking to PSM News after concluding his trip to all inhabited islands of Laamu Atoll, Minister Faisal said that he visited the atoll as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to build stronger ties between government, local councils, and communities. As such, the Minister met with all the local councils and held important discussions during his trip.

Additionally, Minister Faisal said that the most important point of discussion with the councils was on developing and diversifying local tourism and the challenges they face in this initiative. He said that some councils have land use plans but face financial difficulties in implementing them. As such, he discussed with the councils how the ministry can help solve these challenges. He also vowed to address the difficulties councils face in promoting local tourism in Laamu Atoll.

Deputy Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited Hussain Zuhuree joined Minister Faisal during his trip. He said that the councils shared their expectations and concerns over the stalled projects, which will inform Fenaka in its efforts to provide adequate services in Laamu Atoll.

During his trip, Minister Faisal was also accompanied by Managing Director of the Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) Hawwa Shiuna Khalid. The Minister and the Managing Director inspected the progress of the Baresdhoo development project.
