Kihaadhoo shore protection project awarded to MT Højgaard

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Dutch company MT Højgaard Private Limited to undertake the shore protection project in Kihaadhoo, Baa Atoll. The contract was signed by the Director General of the Planning Ministry Fathimath Shaana Farooq and the Managing Director of MT Højgaard Per Vinther Larsen.

Kihaadhoo is facing beach erosion from areas where the sand was extracted for the harbour construction project. President of Kihaadhoo Island Council Hussain Shafiu said the residents of the island are concerned about the erosion of the unprotected beach.

The project involves the construction 548m gravel canal and enriching the beach of the island with sand. The project was contracted to be completed within six months at a cost of USD1 million.
