Gov't provides surgical instruments to facilities in 15 atolls

Ministry of Health has revealed that surgical instruments have been provided to hospitals and health centres in 15 atolls in the Maldives. The items were handed over by Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Naseem said the government is working to strengthen the health care system in the country. As such, he said that contracts have currently been signed for the construction of tertiary-level hospitals in five atolls. He, furthermore, said that the new surgical instruments will speed up the services provided by hospitals and health centres. In addition, he said the government is making efforts to solve the human resource issue facing the health sector and build people in key sectors.

The surgical instruments handed over to hospitals and health centres included dressing instrument sets, baby sets, delivery sets, suturing instrument sets, incision and drainage sets, and articles for dressing room sets.

The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to improve the health sector by developing regional hospitals and health centres and upgrading existing ones. The initiative will improve the healthcare services in all parts of the country and reduce the reliance on facilities in the Greater Male’ Region. The government is also addressing the space constraints faced by health centres in the islands.
