Maldives and South Korea discuss resuming direct air connectivity

The Maldives and South Korea have held discussions on resuming direct air connectivity between the two countries. The discussions took place during the courtesy call on Vice President Faisal Naseem by Lee Jin-bok, the Special Envoy of the President of South Korea and Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, Vice President Naseem and Special Envoy Lee engaged in dialogue to address key issues of mutual interest. They also discussed expanding cooperation in education, tourism, trade, and investment, increasing collaboration on climate change, and achieving sustainability goals. They also discussed prospects for further strengthening bilateral ties through cooperation on the human resource development of health sector workers in the Maldives.

Speaking further on healthcare cooperation, Vice President Naseem expressed his gratitude to the government of South Korea for the generous consideration extended to the Maldives during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Maldives established diplomatic relations with South Korea on November 30, 1966.
