RTL ferry service to begin in Huvadhoo Atoll

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated that the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service will commence in Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in July.

Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate Faresmaathoda Airport, Minister Aslam said that the development of the travel and transport system involves increasing connections via air and sea. As such, he said more islands will be connected to the RTL ferry service soon to allow residents to travel to different islands cheaply and conveniently.

Additionally, Minister Aslam highlighted that over 200,000 residents of the connected islands have used the RTL services. He said that preparations are being made to connect islands in Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll to the service in mid-July. He assured that the government has a complete national development plan which includes projects to develop the travel and transport system across the country.

Furthermore, Minister Aslam said 80% of the infrastructure has been developed for air travel and that existing airports will be redeveloped. He further said that flights will soon connect Gan in Addu City and Kooddoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll and that the government plans to connect all six airports in the southern region.
