JSC suspends Chief Magistrate of Haa Dhaalu Judicial Constituency

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has suspended the Chief Magistrate of Haa Dhaalu Judicial Constituency Ali Adam, following a disciplinary investigation.

JSC revealed Chief Magistrate Ali Adam was suspended after a probe revealed he had formed and actively taken part in an organisation in direct violation of the Judges’ Act and the Judges’ Code of Conduct. JSC said the probe revealed Ali Adam had taken part in an event by his organisation in Kulhudhuffushi which could be seen by the public as a political event. JSC added the views expressed by Ali Adam on his own social media accounts could also seen as politically biased views, which directly breaches the Judges’ Code of Conduct.

JSC stated Ali Adam has been suspended for a duration of two weeks without pay as per the JSC Act. JSC said responsibilities of the Chief Magistrate of the judicial constituency has been handed over to Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Mohamed Ismail for the duration of the suspension.
