Maldivians urged to communicate with each other in Dhivehi

President of the Dhivehi Language Academy Dr. Ashraf Abdul Raheem has urged all Maldivians to communicate with each other in Dhivehi.

In a special message published on the occasion of Dhivehi Language Day, Dr. Ashraf said the love and respect that must be given to the national language cannot be extended simply by stating one’s love and respect for the language. Noting this must be proved through meaningful action, Dr. Ashraf said a special priority must be given to ensure all official and non-official communications between Maldivians are carried out in Dhivehi language. He urged all Maldivians to communicate with each other in Dhivehi.

The Dhivehi Language Day is marked annually on April 14. The purpose of marking the day is to strengthen the love for the national language among young generations and create more awareness on the language. The theme for this year’s Dhivehi Language Day aims to highlight the unique identity provided to Maldivians by the Dhivehi language.
