AGO submits three new parliamentary bills to the President’s Office

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has submitted three new parliamentary bills to the President’s Office to be submitted to the Parliament of the Maldives.

The new bills submitted by the AGO include amendment bills to the Public Finance Act and the Criminal Procedure Act, as well as the Waste Management Bill. The bills will be submitted to the parliament after review by the President’s Office.

The amendment bill to the Public Finance Act includes amendments to the policies of acquiring funds under state debt, providing guarantees, maintaining accounts and allocating annual budgets. The bill also includes an amendment on extending special financial assistance from state funds under certain circumstances.

The amendment bill to the Criminal Procedure Act includes amendments to witness protection policies, and the preparation of confession agreements. The bill aims to resolve the difficulties faced in carrying out certain criminal procedures.

The Waste Management Bill provides the legal framework for sustainable waste management policies and procedures. The bill aims to strengthen waste management mechanisms and establish a pathway for sustainable and eco-friendly waste management.

The government had previously announced 36 bills would be submitted to the parliament during the first parliamentary term of 2022. This includes 15 new bills and 21 amendment bills.
