Parliament of the Maldives has passed an amendment bill allowing judges to receive six months of maternity leave. The amendment bill passed with 57 votes in favour.
The amendment bill was proposed by Parliamentarian Abdulla Shaheem on behalf of the government and allows female judges to receive a six-month leave and male judges to receive a one-month leave. Extending maternity leave is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. As such, President Solih provided six months of paid maternity leave for all female civil servants in 2019.
Since then, many state-owned companies have been providing six months of maternity leave for their employees as well.
