State Trading Organization (STO) has stated efforts are underway to provide essential items to the general public without interruption during the month of Ramadan. The demand for food items in the market increases every year during Ramadan.
Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Managing Director Hussain Amru said one of the main purposes of STO during the month of Ramadan is to provide goods to the public and to control the prices without significant increases. Amru noted a lot of work is already underway to achieve the objectives, adding shipments of onion, eggs, and potatoes have now been brought to the Maldives, which are some items most in demand during Ramadan.
Amru said the prices of onion, eggs, and potatoes will be the same all across the Maldives. He also said that STO had considered bringing direct shipments to the north and south of the country in order to maintain the prices.
STO is the only state company that provides these items across the country.
