Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has urged citizens to learn from the heroes who sacrificed themselves for the nation. He made the remarks in his speech at the official function held to celebrate Martyrs' Day in Fuvahmulah City.
Speaking at the event, Minister Hassan said every Maldivian student needs to learn of the heroes who had made sacrifices for the sake of the nation. The minister noted that Maldives had historically fell into servitude after Maldivians had betrayed the country and undermined it from within, and urged all citizens to be vigilant of such people. He also recalled the historical events that had led to martyrdom, including the fight for independence against the Portuguese during the 1500s, and highlighted the importance of elevating the women who had made sacrifices for the nation.
Ministry of Home Affairs conducted special activities in Fuvahmulah City to mark this year's Martyrs' Day. Activities began with a special art exhibition, which was officially inaugurated by Minister Hassan. Drawings displayed at the exhibition were prepared under the theme Nationalism.In addition, a special quiz was held in Fuvahmulah School to mark the Martyrs' Day.
The activities for this year's Martyrs' Day was held by the home ministry in collaboration with the Fuvahmulah City Council.
