President conveys greetings of Martyrs' Day

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has conveyed well wishes to all citizens on the occasion of Martyrs' Day.

In a tweet, President Solih conveyed well wishes to all Maldivians and prayed for those who had made sacrifices for the sake of the nation. Vice President Faisal Naseem also conveyed well wishes on Martyrs' Day and urged citizens to renew the memories of the martyrs who fought for their freedom.

Martyrs' Day celebrates the death of Sultan Ali VI who fought the Portuguese and died in the battlefield in 1558 and is considered a national hero and a martyr. The Maldives began celebrating Martyrs' Day on the first day of the month of Shaʻban in the year 1400 in the Islamic calendar, which was June 14, 1980.
