STO to develop wheat flour factory in Kulhudhuffushi

State Trading Organisation (STO) has announced the decision to develop a wheat flour factory in Kulhudhuffushi City.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amr revealed the company will commence the development of a wheat flour factor in Kulhudhuffushi as soon as a land plot is allocated for the factory. Amr stated STO chose Kulhudhuffushi as its site for manufacturing wheat flour as it is the main trading hub of the northern atolls and would be an ideal location to operate such a facility. He noted the establishment of the factory would provide many economic benefits to Kulhudhuffushi and neighbouring islands.

Speaking further, Amr stated STO is fully prepared to begin the development of the wheat flour factory, noting the finances of the project have been arranged. Amr said a contractor has also been allocated for the project and all technical studies have been completed ahead of the development. He added STO is working with the Kulhudhuffushi City Council to finalise the land plot for the development.

STO is developing a wheat flour factory in the Maldives as part of efforts to ensure food security of the country. As the Maldives is not able to produce wheat locally, STO will be importing wheat and manufacturing wheat flour in the factory.
