Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has met with the Maldivian students who returned from Ukraine following the Russian invasion of the country.
During the meeting held at the higher education ministry, Minister Hassan acknowledged the efforts of government authorities as well as the Bank of Maldives (BML) to assist the return of the students. He noted the first priority of the government was to ensure the safety of Maldivian students in Ukraine.
51 Maldivians had been in Ukraine when threats of a Russian invasion began to materialise last month. 30 of them were able to leave Ukraine before the country’s airspaces were closed following the beginning of Russian attacks to key regions of Ukraine on February 22. Another 15 students were able to return home on February 28, and the remaining 9 are scheduled to return on March 4.
