Two more rooms established in Maafushi prison

Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has established two more rooms in Maafushi Prison to allow inmates and detainees to take part in online trials. Maafushi Prison now consists of five rooms, allowing 25 prisoners to participate in online trials each day.

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu inaugurated the new rooms at a special ceremony. Senior officials who joined the ceremony include Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Ibrahim Mohamed Didi and Assistant of Superintendent of Prisons at Maafushi Jail Ahmed Jadulla.

MCS stated the purpose of the rooms is to reduce the cost of transferring prisoners during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The rooms will also prevent trials from becoming prolonged and allow inmates and detainees to meet their lawyers and family more easily.
